How intentional Friday routines transformed the day from obligation to highlight.
Jumuah is the best day of the week. The Prophet (peace be upon him) told us:
"The best day on which the sun rises is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he was admitted to Paradise, and on it he was expelled therefrom." — Sahih Muslim 854
But for a long time, my Fridays were just... showing up. Pray, listen to khutbah, leave.
Here's what changed when I started taking Friday seriously:
I prepare the night before. Clothes laid out. Ghusl planned. No rushing around Friday morning wondering where my good socks are.
I read Surah Al-Kahf. Either Thursday night or Friday morning. The whole thing. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"Whoever reads Surah al-Kahf on Friday, a light will shine for him between the two Fridays." — Mustadrak al-Hakim
I try to arrive early. This is hard with work, but when I manage it, the difference is huge. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"Whoever takes a bath on Friday and comes early to the masjid, and walks and does not ride, and sits close to the imam and listens without interrupting, will have the reward of a year of fasting and praying at night for every step he takes." — Sunan al-Tirmidhi 496
I make specific duas. Friday has an hour where dua is accepted. Allah tells us:
"O you who have believed, when the call to prayer is made for Jumuah, then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade. That is better for you, if you only knew." — Quran 62:9
